Mwana Alirenji Producers and Marketing
Cooperative Limited is one the SOCFEs formed under the SVTP-1. The Cooperative
was registered in March 2022, and owns the Chikhambi + Mbenderana Irrigation

Block The Cooperative is located in Group Village Headmen (GVH) Mbenderana and
Chikhambi, Tradition Authority (TA) Kasisi, east of Chikwawa District. It is
bordered by Kambadwa Cooperative in the north, Mantchombe Cooperative in the
east, and Katunga-Maseya (KAMA) Cane Growers Association in the south. The
irrigation block has a total of 844.9 hectares of land of which 793 ha is
suitable for commercial irrigation. 4 The Cooperative has 791 members drawn
from 12 villages of Chikhambi 1, Chikhambi 3, Light, Mwingama, Mpotazingwe,
Mbenderana, Ling’awa 1, Ling’awa 2, Ling’awa 3, Ling’awa 4, Ling’awa 5 and
Ling’awa 6. These are organised into five Business Centre Committees (BCC) of
Mthundu, Nsekere, Mtondo, Tiyanjane and Chidziwitso The Cooperative has slightly
more male members (51.7%) than female members (48.3%). Shareholding for each
member is determined by the size of land parcel that a member contributed
within the irrigation block.
Starting from September 2024, Mwana Alirenji
Cooperative has made thorough preparations to farm various crop enterprises
such as chili, soya bean and cotton.
