Mangalangala
Cooperative is one of the first cooperatives to be incorporated with support
from SVTP in the programme’ s impact area. The Cooperative is fully
incorporated and registered with the Ministry of Trade and Industry-Registrar
of Cooperatives and is a recognized legal entity. Its membership comprises
2,380 land owners within the Two boy-Tizola Irrigation Block in the STVP area.
The members have consolidated their land parcels to form a smallholder owned
commercial farm enterprise.
The
Cooperative is located in area of T/A Katunga to the west of Bereu village
along the northern banks of the Mwanza River in Chikwawa District in the
Southern Region of the Republic of Malawi, fifteen kilometers south of Chikwawa
Boma. The project will cover 717
hectares of land in the area of six Group Village Heads (GVHs), namely:
Chikalumpha; Twoboy -Tizola; Two boy, Benito, Tambo, Tizola and Supuni, all in
the area of TA Katunga, Chikwawa District. Out of the 2,380 direct
beneficiaries, 595 are women led households representing twenty percent of the
total direct beneficiaries and 1,785, representing seventy percent of the total
membership are male led households.
With
over 60 percent of the direct project beneficiaries aged thirty-five years and
below, the project will promote youth empowerment and reduction of unemployment
among the youth in the project area.

Cooperative will be producing Soy Bean, Groundnuts and Sorgum.
