Katundu Cooperative is one of the SOCFEs formed under the Shire Valley Transformation Project (SVTP- 1). Officially registered in April 2023, the Cooperative overseas the Mologeni Tizola Irrigation Block.
Strategically positioned within the territories of three Group Village Headmen (GVHs) – Mologeni, Mbande, and Supuni – the Cooperative operates under the jurisdiction of two Traditional Authorities (TAs), Katunga and Maseya. This location is neighbored to the north by Chingalumba Cooperative and flanked to the east by the Katunga- Maseya Cane Growers Association and Kasinthula Cane Growers Limited.
Covering an extensive area of 1,262 hectares, the Cooperative boasts a vibrant membership of 2,005 individuals hailing from twenty villages. These members, who contribute to and benefit from the irrigation block, are organized into six Business Centre Committees: Ufulu, Madzalume, Mwanza, Mtondo, Mawira, and Tipindule. The membership exhibits a diverse demographic composition with a slight make majority of 57.2% and a female representation of 42.8%.
